Materials: Our custom hydro dipping services are compatible with metal and plastic parts.

Repeatability: Advanced machinery and rigorous inspection guarantee precision and repeatability.

What Is Hydro Dipping?

Hydrographic dipping is a comprehensive finishing process wherein a metal or plastic part is dipped in a special solution containing a 2D pattern or print. This is achieved by floating the printed film on water, activating it, and dipping the 3D object through it so it covers it completely, leading to an aesthetic, seamless, and durable finish.

Hydrographic dipping/ water transfer printing is a different process from standard paint and vinyl wraps. With hydrographic printing services, the final result is a complete covering that covers even the most complex of shapes. This is not possible with paint or vinyl wraps, which are susceptible to peeling or incomplete covering.

Materials Suitable for Hydrographic Printing

As a specialized hydro dipping company, our process works best with certain materials, such as:

Fabricated Metal Parts: These metal parts have strong, durable surfaces, making them an ideal candidate for hydrographic printing services.

Plastic Components: Certain plastic components, which are durable and non-porous, such as ABS, polypropylene and polycarbonate, are also suitable materials for industrial hydro dipping.

Applications of Hydro Dipping

Solera Metal Fabrication’s water transfer printing services have widespread applications:

Automotive Sector: Our hydro dipping services improve the finish and durability of the interior inserts, mirror housing and dash trims, along with custom accessories in automobiles.

Consumer Electronics: Custom hydro dipping can also be used on game controllers, headsets and speaker housings.

Packaging: Water transfer printing can be used on bottle caps to give an aesthetic metallic or marble finish, or to add graphics on packs.

Lifestyle Products: Kitchen appliances, eyewear, power tools, fitness products and more see significant visual and quality improvement with hydro dipping.

Our Hydro Dipping Process

Solera Metal Fabrication follows an extensive protocol for our hydro dipping services. Here is a step-by-step examination of the hydrographic printing service:

Surface Preparation

The part to be hydro dipped is first cleaned and coated with a base paint. This improves the adhesion of the print and the final visual finish of the product after the process.

Film Transfer & Dipping

The film with the required design is dipped in water, and the ink is activated by spraying a special activator on it. Once the film is prepared and activated, the part is dipped in this solution. The immersion is slow and controlled to ensure uniform transfer.

Rinsing, Drying & Clear Coating

After the dipping process, the excessive film is removed from the surface by rinsing and drying the metal or plastic part. The dried part is then added with a clear coat for additional protection against UV rays and bolstering its durability.
