What Is Custom Hydrodipping?

Custom hydro dipping is a specialized surface treatment process where 2D prints are superimposed onto 3D surfaces to create a smooth, seamless finish. Also known as water transfer printing, it comprises a water-soluble material, often polyvinyl alcohol (PVA), which is placed on the surface of the water.

The print or material is then sprayed with a special activator that dissolves it and makes it easy to adhere to the surface. Lastly, the part to be dipped is immersed in this solution, creating beautiful designs and prints as desired.

How Does Custom Hydrodipping Work?

Hydro dipping services typically follow the following process:

- The metal or plastic part to be dipped is first prepared by sanding or cleaning
- The part to be adhered is painted with a material that is compatible with the water transfer printing process
- The film with the design or print is placed on the surface of the water
- The film is activated with a special activator to liquefy it
- The part to be dipped is submerged slowly and evenly in this solution
- Excess solution or print is removed by using warm water
- The part with the new 3D print is dried by different methods to achieve the desired surface
